On Monday, my mom and I took Rielyn, Ashlyn and Molly to Hafer park for a picnic (with the flys...bad idea) and to play and feed the ducks. However, when we went to feed the ducks...none of them wanted to eat! They usually flock over to where you are to eat, but they were pre-occupied this time. Come to find out...they were all protecting their baby ducklings (is that the correct term for baby ducks??). We saw three mommy ducks that each had 5 or more that were following them around. The moms were very protective of their babys and hissed at you if you got close. Then we see all the male ducks laying around together...I assume they were the dads. They just hang out together and relax (their part is done) while the moms take care of the kids...sounds like us doesn't it! So, since the kids were throwing bread like crazy, it attracted a couple squirrells that they were able to get pretty close to and feed. Normally, there are a few geese around too, but I'm thinking they may have been removed to protect the baby ducks. Geese are pretty aggressive, my parents have one (why, I don't know...it's loud and obnoxious!) and Ashlyn was naive and stuck her hand in it's cage when we were there a couple weeks ago. Boy, did she learn her lesson! She didn't get hurt real bad, but it sure did scare her! Tomorrow we're headed off to the Zoo again... but hey when you have a zoo pass and fighting kids, you gotta get them out of the house! Thursday, I think we're going to go to Pelican Bay, which should be fun!
