So I ended up teaching (kinda...it was more like leading) my first Pilates class today on accident. My sister (Kim) and I went to the Trails YMCA to try out the Pilates class there. Well, first of all, I was told the class was at 10:15, but it really was at 11:15, so we decided to stay and run on the treadmills and do some of the weight machines until the class started (I probably won't be able to move at all tomorrow it's been so long since I've done weights). So at 11:15 we were pretty "worked out" but thought we'd stay for the class anyways. Well, the teacher never showed up. So a couple of the ladies were asking if anyone felt comfortable enough to lead the class. I didn't speak up and first, but then I finally decided that I would give it a shot...humiliation or not! There were only 6 or 7 in there including me and my sister...so it was a good setting for my "first class"! Since I really wasn't mentally prepared to teach it, it was kinda choppy and didn't flow very well, but I think we got the majority of the exercises in. Another lady that I've seen in a few of the classes helped with a few of the moves too so I'm glad she was there to help too. I really don't know how I did...my sister would be a better judge. But this one lady kept saying how she missed "megan" (the teacher) over and over and over and she wasn't even following the sequence I was doing, she was doing it how "megan does it". It was kinda frustrating me...I kinda wish she would've just left if she didn't like the way I was doing it! Every Pilates teacher I've had has a different teaching technique and it's not always going to be the same routine every time...they even say it's better to change it up a lot! But, all in all...I think the rest of the girls were happy they had some instruction (again...you have to check with my sister for the REAL answer on that! ). They said that that class was going to be cancelled from now on and the girls were asking if I would just come and teach it, but I don't think the Y would be very happy with a non-certified teacher! Oh well...it was a good experience!
