What we did Thanksgiving day...

This year, we decided to Thanksgiving w/just us. Nathan didn't want to take any time off from his job due to the economy and people already losing their jobs. We were invited other places too, but since Nathan hasn't had much time off from work we decided to let him relax at home all day. We started off the day watching the Thanksgiving Day parade...they actually watched a lot of it...the part they're watching is a little part of the Mary Poppins broadway show.

Then, while I was cooking, the girls made these Thanksgiving turkeys!
I put an olive on Kellan's finger, the only way I grew up eating them! He wasn't quite sure why I was doing that!
But, he did eat it and like it!

The meal...we ate at 3. I actually pulled off making the whole meal by myself, not that I'm a single mom or anything! :) I actually wanted to do it all and let Nathan relax. I did cut a few corners to save time though. We had turkey breast, instant mashed potatoes (Nathan actually prefers them over the real kind), green beans (instead of green bean casserole...I would've been the only one eating it), cornbread dressing (made from scratch because Nathan can't eat wheat and every other kind had flour in it), yams w/marshmallows, green jello salad (Nathan's mom recipe), rolls, and pumpkin pie (made from the canned pumpkin). I'd like to know how many of you made your stuff from scratch or if you cut any corners as well! :)

Then we put up our Christmas tree. All the kids helped...Kellan was in awe that there was a tree in our house! He kept pointing to it and saying "wus dis?"
Half the tree has nice pretty ornaments on it...Kellan let us know when one was accidentally in his reach! And Ashlyn helped put the star on.
I still have a bunch more decorations to put up around the house. This whole break is about taking it easy...I actually haven't left the house since my famous shopping trip on Wednesday! That is SO unlike me! I'm actually getting a little stir crazy today...the kids have done great considering we haven't gone anywhere either! I have let them watch a few Christmas movies, which I normally don't let them watch very much tv. Ashlyn has asked the last 2 nights if Santa Claus is coming while we're sleeping. I hope she finally catches on that Christmas is still a ways off!

I love the olive part! I saw Ashlyn at the Thanksgiving feast with olives on all her fingers I thought it was so cute. I guess now I know where she got it from!

The only corner I cut with our Thanksgiving meal is the pumpkin pie. I used store bought crust and canned pumpkin. To be honest I don't know how to make a "real" homemade pumpkin pie. I did make homemade whip cream for it though.
