Tornado

Thankfully, this is not our house. But it did come close. This house is about 300 yards from us across the street in the Homestead Addition. We drove over there and were amazed at how bad the damage was. We also found out that a half-block up the road some cars were pinned down by a fallen power line.
The day of the storm, I was at sonshine school when we got word there was a tornado heading to Edmond (in the middle of February...crazy). I kinda went into panic mode, not because of the tornado (they're pretty frequent in OK), but because all my family was not together. Rielyn was still in school getting ready to get out, I had Kellan and Ashlyn with me and Nathan was leaving work to head home. It scares me when were not all together in times like that. So, I left to try to go get Rielyn from school and my little sister called me and said the tornado was really close and to stop and get shelter. Well, I didn't see any tornado where I was at, so I said I was going to just go home real quick and not try to stop to get Rielyn which was right where I was (I assumed they would have the kids sheltered somewhere). I got a block from my house and it was really calm and I thought that I saw a funnel cloud a little southwest of us. I drive about a half a block more to turn into my neighborhood and then what seemed like a hurricane hit. It was probably the edge of the tornado that went through Homestead. I could barely steer my car and trash from overturned trashcans was flying everywhere. A friend (Laura W.) and her 3 kids was going to meet me at my house for shelter because she was on her way to the dr's office and didn't know where else to go. We decided afterwards it probably wasn't the best place they could've gone if we would've know how close it was! As I pulled into the neighborhood, Laura called me asking how close I was saying it felt like a tornado was hitting. I said I was almost there and I pulled into my driveway, we both pulled our kids out of the cars and ran inside to the bathroom underneath our stairs. Safe!! Nathan pulled in a few minutes later and then another round came through. Finally around 4 o'clock, we had a window of about 20 minutes before another severe storm cell came through and Nathan went to get Rielyn from school. After that, I wasn't as anxious...we were all together.

We are thankful that we did not get any damage, several houses in our neighborhood had fences blown down and tree branches down. We got some brief hail that was a little bigger than a quarter size, but that didn't do too much damage. We thought we were in the clear, but have had several roofers stop by and want to check our roof. We thought about it and called a friends dads company (Gena's dads company-Premiere Roofing) to check it out. Well, come to find out...our roof is totaled from wind damage. So, we're still waiting on exactly what that means...but hopefully it means that insurance will cover the majority of it and we'll get a new roof that we've been needing!
