Now, onto our second vacation!
After 2 days of rest (and laundry), we packed up our bags again (well...really we never unpacked them) and headed down to San Antonio, this time with Nathan. Nathan couldn't go to Colorado because when we decided we were going to go it was within 3 weeks and his work wants a months notice for vacation. We crammed all our trips into August because it's the only month where nothin is going on...no school, no swim lessons, no soccer, no gymnastics etc. and I am not one to sit around and do nothing! My sister Kim and her family went along too. Our main reason for San Antonio was to visit Nathan's Grandparents. Nathan's grandmother has cancer in three places. But, she is a strong woman and the treatments are working wonders. She looks so good for everything she's been through and I'm so glad we got to visit with them! She had me put on one of her wigs and I think I look pretty good platinum, don't you?! I'm not afraid of a little gray! :) We also visited Nathan's Aunt and the girls got to feed all the fish in her ponds. I would love to have her backyard!
We stayed at the Drury Plaza Hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio and it was beautiful! Our room was on the 16th floor and my sister somehow managed to get their room upgraded for no extra charge to a 2 level suite on the 23rd floor! The pool was on the roof on the 23rd floor, the highest one in San Antonio! The water was so warm, Kellan loved it! Nathan wasn't too fond of the glass wall surrounding the pool area (served for an awesome view), he has a little fear of heights! After swimming, we got ready and walked out the basement of our Hotel onto the Riverwalk to go eat dinner. We decided to eat at Hard Rock Cafe out on the patio...a little hot, but the atmosphere was unbeatable!
Monday we went to Sea World. Even though the temps were over 100, we had a very good time! You really do need more than a day to enjoy everything though! We got there right when they opened and one of the first things we did was ride the "Journey to Atlantis" ride, the line only took 10 minutes. I took Rielyn and Kimberly took Molly. It's the big log ride that splashes really big at the bottom. Rielyn did pretty good for it being her first big ride! She tried covering her eyes on the way down, but I pulled them off. :) (If you pause the slide show at the picture of the ride, we are in the 3rd row back...Rielyn and Molly are in the middle.) After the ride, I asked Rielyn if she liked it and she said " I don't think I want to do that one again!" That was the only ride we did and then we went to the Shamu show, which Kellan watched and loved the whole thing! Then we had lunch, which the lines for any kind of food was longer for any ride line! After lunch we did a behind the scenes tour. I read somewhere that it was recommended. It was really neat...we got to feed Sting Rays, and see dolphins, whales and sharks up close and personal! On the tour, I also learned the Shamu, the "Killer whale" is not even a whale! They are Orca's which is a dolphin. They got the name becuase way back when, the Spaniards saw the orca's killing whales to eat them and so they called it a whale killer. Which in English translated to "Killer whale". Just FYI! I thought that was interesting! :) Kellan did really well at Sea World, I took our portable spray fan and kept drenching his hat w/cold water and he stayed content! After our tour, it was so stinkin hot we decided to spend the last hour or so at the water park! We would've stayed longer, but the day we went was the first day they started closing at 6 instead of 9. So, we left at 6 and went back to the Riverwalk this time to eat at Joes Crabshack. That was fun...the girls loved the music and dancing the waitstaff did! Tuesday on the way back we stopped at the San Marcos outlet malls. I over spent at the Carters store (I LOVE that place). They had tons of cute clothes for $3.99 and $5.99. We had to come back by Wednesday because it was information day at Edmond schools. So, we went and met Rielyn's Kindergarten teacher for this year, Mrs. Brown. She is so excited to be starting back at school! Anyways, we had such a great time on our little family vacation. Nathan wants us to plan a whole week for it next year! Maybe when it's not so hot though! :)
